What to expect from an Amalia dance class:
You can expect to meet some really great women! Every woman can belly dance! The classes are fun!
Classes always start with walking. From a basic walk: putting one foot in front of the other with your head held high, to more interesting walks embellished with arms, hands, hips and turns. Once you are comfortable walking confidently to the music, dancing to the music will be much easier. From the very first class you will be introduced to belly dance movements using the hips and arms, but, by the end of the session, you will have incorporated movement throughout your entire body -- from your eyes to your fingertips.
If you are like most of the women who have taken Amalia’s belly dance class, you will come into the first class a bit nervous. Amalia works to ease students into the dance while building a sense of camaraderie, and to make the class a non-competitive, welcoming, and fun atmosphere.
Choosing which level to take: The basic classes are appropriate for beginners through intermediate dancers. While the movements taught are basic, Amalia will work with more advanced students to use these basic moves as an opportunity to improve their isolations, arms, and fluency. The more advanced classes typically begin with a review of steps, but these are not broken down, so a good foundation of basic belly dance moves is important. In these “Beyond Basic” classes, you will begin adding layers of movements, level changes, and performance techniques to basic movements, as well as working on more intricate moves. Please contact Amalia with any questions, or if you are not sure which class to take.
